Blues Sans Frontieres

Blues Sans Frontieres is a multi-cultural collaboration fronted by Brit Blues stalwarts, drummer Sam Kelly and guitarist/vocalist Robert Hokum. But anyone expecting to get funky blues in the style of their regular bands are in for a surprise. This is an all acoustic group featuring ethnic styles without an electric guitar or conventional drum kit in sight.  Featuring Mehboob Nadeem on sitar, Guyanan master flautist Keith Waithe, and from The Guv’nors - Nigel Appleton and Graham Wright on tuned percussion and bass.

“Mehboob Nadeem played throughout with amazing virtuosity and intensity.”

(Blues in London Review)

dHa

dHa is an dynamic international musical collaboration between classically trained Indian musicians from Bombay and jazz musicians from London and New Zealand. dHa explores the natural synergy of improvisation of both Indian classical music and Western jazz through original compositions.  The five members of dHa have come together to continue a contemporary musical tradition of cross fertilisation which in a way reflects the type of world and societies we live in.  dHa is Mehboob Nadeem (Sitar), Paul Brimmer (Tenor Saxophone), Hanif Khan (Tabla), David Leahy (Double Bass) and Adrian Northover (Soprano Saxophone)

As Paul Brimmer says "I think it's just about playing with feeling."

Mehboob Nadeem grins and finishes Paul's thought, "It's about taking risk, because music is risk."

Bololen

This is a story with three faces, three people from very different cultural backgrounds thrown together by life’s mysterious ways.  They discover each other’s music and decide to come together and share their inspiration with all people.  Bololen is Mehboob Nadeem from Bombay, India (sitar, vocals), Musa Mboob from Serrakunda, Tha Gambia (Tama, Sabar, Vocals) and Thomas Christen from Hamburg, Germany (Saxophones, Kamelengoni).  Bololen’s musical repertoire grows from the spontaneous improvisation which results from the musicians’ original improvisations.  All three share an understanding of the inherent rules of each of their musical traditions. In their transposition, the diverse traditional elements undergo an enrichment.  When an African rhythmic phrase is dressed with a melody from an Indian raga and seasoned with European harmony, it becomes an intercontinental lead motif.  This motif is the essence of the music that is Bololen.
